A social event for international students in Melbourne

Moving to Melbourne can be exciting, but it can also be lonely at first. Many international students arrive with the same problem: they want to practise English, meet people outside class, and find something social to do after study.

Linguas is built for that exact situation. It is a casual language exchange where people can practise languages, meet new friends, and join a friendly community without the pressure of a formal class.

Good for students who want to...

Practise English

Speak naturally with locals, other students and people from many different countries.

Make friends

Meet people outside your school, university, workplace or usual friend group.

Go out alone

Many people come by themselves. That is completely normal at Linguas.

Discover Melbourne

Join a social community in the CBD and find other events, friends and activities.

Why international students come to Linguas

Linguas is not a classroom and it is not a formal networking event. It is a social space where conversation is the activity.

Language exchange

You can practise English, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French and other languages depending on who attends that night.

Friendly environment

The event is designed to make it easier to start conversations, especially if you are shy or new to Melbourne.

Melbourne CBD

Our weekly events are in central Melbourne, making them easy to reach after class, work or university.

No friend group needed

You can arrive alone. We have a reception table and hosts who can help you settle in.

Relaxed, not formal

It feels more like a casual social night than a class. You can stay for a short time or the whole event.

International community

Meet people from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Europe, Australia and many other places.

How it works

The event is simple. You do not need to prepare anything.

1. Arrive at the venue

Come during the event time. You can arrive at the start or later in the evening.

2. Check in at reception

Tell us if you want to practise English, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese or another language.

3. Join a table

We help you find a group. Then you can talk, listen, ask questions and meet new people naturally.
